New Bit Stool Collection by Normann Copenhagen

Sculptural Forms, Playfulness and Plastic Waste: Introducing the Bit Stool by Normann Copenhagen

A stool that looks like it belongs in a museum but is right at home by your sofa. Bold in form, pixelated in texture, and made entirely from recycled plastic, the Bit stool is a design object that’s unexpectedly versatile and surprisingly fun.

This isn’t just about somewhere to sit. It’s a statement piece with purpose.

A Designer Who Understands Proportion and Play

Designed by Simon Legald for Normann Copenhagen, Bit is part of a wider collection that transforms industrial waste into sculptural, multifunctional furniture. Legald, who heads design at the Danish brand, is known for his ability to combine technical insight with playful proportions. He cut his teeth at the Royal Danish Academy and has spent over a decade shaping some of Normann Copenhagen’s best-known pieces, including the Form chair and Block table.

With Bit, Legald wanted to keep things simple but not safe. “The design is almost naive and childlike, but refined,” he explains. “The goal was to create something exciting and valuable using recycled materials. To turn trash into something people truly want to keep.”

Bold Shapes, Recycled Origins

At first glance, Bit is unmistakably modern. Its silhouette is chunky, geometric and confident, more reminiscent of architectural columns or carved stone monoliths than conventional furniture. But run your hand across the surface and another story emerges. The tactile, speckled texture is made up of tiny chips of household and industrial plastic, reused, repurposed and reimagined.

Available in four colourways (mottled grey, multicolour, black, and white), each version has its own rhythm and character. The colourful variants showcase the raw materials quirks and imperfections. The black and white models, on the other hand, allow the form to speak more quietly.

Each piece is made from high-density polyethylene using a rotational moulding technique that gives the stool its unique grain and marbled texture. No two are quite alike.

Designed for Now (and for Later)

Normann Copenhagen was founded in 1999 with a clear ambition: to make the ordinary extraordinary. The Bit collection fits squarely in that tradition, offering objects that are functional, joyful and made to last. For Huset, where enduring design matters as much as aesthetic impact, Bit speaks to the kind of product we’re always searching for.

It’s not just a stool. It’s a side table, plant stand, bedside perch, or low plinth to display your favourite objects. It’s equally at home in a living room, bathroom, hallway, or garden. Lightweight and UV-stable, it’s built for indoor and outdoor use, adapting easily as seasons change.

There’s a quiet cleverness to its flexibility. It’s the sort of design that lives with you, not just in your home.

Design with Intent, Built for a Long Life

Bit doesn’t shout. It doesn’t rely on trends or novelty. What makes it interesting is what makes it useful: a strong form, considered materials, and a clear purpose. It’s a product of its time, designed with sustainability and longevity in mind.

As Legald puts it, “My goal is to create products that are both visually and functionally enduring, ones that hold up well over the years.” It’s a philosophy that defines how Normann Copenhagen works, taking timeless Danish design principles and applying them to new materials and modern living.

Never Ordinary, Never Overstated

For a piece that’s made from fragments of old detergent bottles and industrial waste, Bit feels surprisingly personal. Its presence is strong, but not loud. It adds personality without clutter. A small design decision with lasting impact.

In stock now at Huset, the Bit stool is ready to move in. Bit is part of a growing collection that also includes barstools and lounge chairs.
