Simon Karkov

Simon Karkov Graduating from the Royal Danish Academy of Architecture, designer Simon Karkov brings a distinct structural sensibility to everything he creates. "Whenever I get an idea I draw a sketch which is then transformed into a model. The model is then adjusted over a period of time until the final prototype can be done. I dream of developing new ways of designing furniture and larger objects through the self-assembly concept." Karkov is well known for his Norm lighting series offered through a collaboration with Normann Copenhagen. This collection of modern hanging lights and lamps are instantly recognizable and strike a wonderful chord in sharp, modern interiors. Karkov’s Norm lighting array suggests forms akin to origami, with a true geometry and sense of lightness captured in light. It is in these Norm lights that you see how his way of viewing and structuring the creative process would be so useful. Karkov has worked as an architect for many years having a hand in creating many a notable space and yet it is the Norm lighting collection that he is probably best remembered for. Simon Karkov is retired living in Turkey but still lends his vision to new projects that speak to him.
