Brokis brings centuries of Bohemian glassmaking into a modern design context, using handblown glass to explore the relationship between form, material and light. Founded in 2006 by Jan Rabell, the brand works closely with the historic Janštejn Glassworks in the Czech Republic, where glassmaking dates to the early 19th century. This connection gives Brokis access to generations of glassmaking knowledge while providing a foundation for experimentation with scale, colour and form.
Glass remains at the centre of the Brokis design language. Traditional handblowing techniques allow the material to take on different proportions, transparencies, colours and surface qualities, changing both the appearance of a light and the way illumination moves through it. Brokis works with designers from different creative backgrounds, using this specialist glassmaking knowledge to develop lighting that brings craft and modern production together.
Huset's current Brokis selection focuses on the Shadows Pendant by Dan Yeffet and Lucie Koldova. Inspired by the form of traditional French atelier lights, the design pairs a handblown glass shade with a timber body, bringing warmth and contrast to the simplicity of its silhouette. Available through Huset in opaque white and smoke grey glass, the two finishes demonstrate how changes in colour and transparency can give the same form a distinctly different presence within an interior.
