View all DesignersNormann Copenhagen: A New Expression of Danish Design
Founded in Copenhagen in 1999 by Jan Andersen and Poul Madsen, Normann Copenhagen builds on Danish traditions of craftsmanship and functionality while challenging familiar ideas of how everyday objects should look and work. Clean lines and clear forms provide a foundation, often balanced by an unexpected shift in proportion, material, colour or detail. This approach allows individual pieces to have their own character while remaining purposeful in how they are used.
Material is approached according to the idea behind each design rather than through a single signature aesthetic. Recycled plastics can take on sculptural, speckled surfaces, while aluminium, glass, marble and timber are used to explore different relationships between form, texture and function. This willingness to work across materials and manufacturing processes gives Normann Copenhagen the freedom to move between restrained designs and pieces with a stronger graphic presence.
Huset's Normann Copenhagen collection extends across furniture, lighting and homewares, with stools, tables and seating alongside pendant lighting and smaller functional pieces. The range brings together work by Simon Legald, Andreas Lund & Jacob Rudbeck, Nicholai Wiig Hansen and other designers, reflecting the collaborative nature of the brand. Across these different categories and creative voices, the connection lies in a clear approach to function combined with a willingness to rethink familiar forms.
