Jens Fager approaches design by first considering what an object needs to do and how it will be used. A graduate of Konstfack University in Stockholm, the Swedish designer has developed a straightforward approach to furniture that gives everyday objects an identity of their own.
His work is often deliberately simple in appearance. Rather than adding unnecessary elements, Fager focuses on the decisions that matter to how a piece looks and functions. Material, construction and detail are used with restraint, allowing the purpose of the design to remain immediately apparent.
Fager's furniture shows how a simple object can still have a clear identity. Through small decisions in material, construction and detail, his designs remain easy to understand while avoiding anonymity. This balance between usefulness and personality gives his work its distinctive character.
