Jonas Wagell: Simple, Recognisable Forms
Swedish architect and designer Jonas Wagell studied at Konstfack University College of Arts and Crafts in Stockholm, alongside studies in communication and design. His multidisciplinary training has shaped an approach that combines the spatial thinking of architecture with the clarity and visual communication of graphic design.
Wagell established Studio JWDA in 2008, initially working across architecture and design before developing a greater focus on furniture and products. His work is characterised by simple silhouettes, rounded forms and details that give individual pieces a distinct identity without unnecessary complexity. The studio now collaborates with manufacturers internationally across furniture, lighting and objects.
For Audo Copenhagen, Wagell designed the JWDA lighting collection, drawing inspiration from traditional oil lamps. Rounded opal glass shades are paired with substantial bases in materials including concrete, marble, travertine and metal, creating a clear contrast between the different forms and materials. The collection extends across table, portable, pendant and floor lamps.
