Patrick Jouin graduated from ENSCI in Paris and established a career spanning furniture, product, lighting and urban design. His work moves between industrial production and craftsmanship, with materials and manufacturing techniques playing an important role in the development of his designs.
Technical exploration has been a recurring part of Jouin's career. His 2004 Solid collection, now represented in MoMA's permanent collection, was an early application of 3D printing to full-scale furniture. His work with Fermob has similarly explored the possibilities of metal furniture production, including technically demanding ways of joining and shaping steel.
