Tom Chung
Based in Toronto, Tom Chung brings an industrial design perspective to objects made for contemporary life. His work is informed by mobility, lightness and durability, exploring how design can adapt as people move between different spaces and uses.
My interest in design is driven by the human experience of space. My process sources from contemporary culture creating context-driven industrial design with a rooted interest in performance. I apply principles of mobility, lightness and durability focusing on improving the objects shaping our built environment.
Tom Chung: Design in Motion
Movement is an important part of Tom Chung’s thinking. The Toronto-based industrial designer considers how people interact with objects across different settings, developing designs that can respond to where and how they are needed.
Since establishing his studio in 2016, Chung has drawn on contemporary culture and local industry to inform his work. Mobility, lightness and durability are recurring considerations, giving his designs a practical adaptability rather than tying them to a single setting. This thinking translates particularly well to portable lighting, where the ability to reposition an object becomes an integral part of its use.
