Kaschkasch: From Cabinetmaking to Furniture Design

Florian Kallus and Sebastian Schneider both trained as cabinetmakers before studying product design and establishing Kaschkasch in 2011. This combination of practical making and design education gives the Cologne studio a direct understanding of how furniture is constructed and manufactured.

Kaschkasch applies this knowledge to timber furniture through structural solutions that become part of the visual design. In the studio’s work with TON, this is particularly evident in table bases where the arrangement of the legs changes according to the viewer’s position, giving the furniture a different appearance from different angles. The collaboration brings Kaschkasch’s technical understanding together with TON’s longstanding expertise in timber furniture
