Northern: Scandinavian Design in a New Light

Established in Oslo in 2005, Northern began with a focus on lighting, drawing inspiration from Scandinavian design and the particular relationship with light found in the Nordic landscape. Long winter darkness and extended summer light provide a natural context for a brand interested in how illumination changes the character of an interior. Its designs balance clear function with carefully resolved forms, creating lighting that has a presence within a space even when it is not illuminated.

Collaboration is central to Northern's approach. The brand works with established and emerging designers, bringing different perspectives to proportion, silhouette, material and the way light is directed or diffused. Rather than following a single aesthetic, Northern's lighting moves between restrained forms and designs with a stronger visual presence, while maintaining an emphasis on function and simplicity.

Huset presents a focused selection from Northern's broader lighting collection. The Acorn Pendant by Atle Tveit reflects the brand's approach through a simple organic silhouette inspired by the natural form of an acorn. Its smooth shade and contrasting stem create a clearly defined profile, while downward illumination makes it suited to dining areas, kitchens and other spaces where light and form work together.
