Baya: Natural Fibres, Texture and Colour

Designed and curated in Tāmaki Makaurau-Auckland, Baya approaches rugs through a strong appreciation of textiles, craftsmanship and natural materials. The brand draws on more than 80 years of family experience in soft furnishings, working with textile artisans to translate this knowledge into collections with a distinctly tactile character. Rather than relying on decoration alone, texture, weave and material give each design its visual depth.

Natural fibres are central to the Baya collection, with New Zealand wool appearing extensively across the rugs ranged by Huset. Different constructions give the material varied expressions, from the finely ribbed flatweave of Vermont to the deep pile of Norfolk and the textured handwoven surface of Mt Somers. These differences in weave, pile and finish allow the rugs to introduce subtle texture or a stronger material presence depending on the interior.

Huset's Baya collection spans an extensive range of floor rugs, runners, round rugs and smaller mats, complemented by a selection of cushions. Colour is considered alongside texture, moving from sand, ivory and oatmeal through earthy olive, moss, eucalyptus and chocolate to deeper shades of ink, wine and charcoal. Across collections such as Sandringham, Norfolk, Fairbanks, Lonsdale and Vermont, variations in colour, scale and construction offer different ways to define a room through the floor rather than simply furnishing it.
