The C317 outdoor lounge chair was designed by Yuzuru Yamakawa in 1965. A prolific and accomplished designer that was ahead of his time, Yuzuru designed and worked with rattan for over 40 years. Yuzuru’s passion for rattan began in 1952 when his father started a rattan company to create jobs for Yuzuru’s two brothers who were both hearing impaired yet incredibly skilled with using their hands. While helping his father manage the company, Yuzuru attended design school at night. His efforts and talent ultimately positioned Yamakawa Rattan to grow and become one of the most renowned companies in Japan specialising in high quality, design-oriented furniture
