Thomas Bentzen
Danish designer Thomas Bentzen develops furniture through an iterative process of prototyping and model making. Grounded in material knowledge, craftsmanship and industrial production, his approach focuses on resolving how furniture is made, functions and responds to everyday use.
I like to create objects that are functional and simple, while satisfying a human need when in use and creating joy when idle. For me, durability means quality, form, and functionality and putting an immense amount of energy into making virtues out of necessities.
Thomas Bentzen: Practical by Design
Thomas Bentzen founded his Copenhagen studio in 2010 after working at Studio Louise Campbell. Prototyping and model making are central to his process, allowing ideas to be tested and refined alongside decisions about materials, construction and manufacturing.
Bentzen also has a longstanding connection with Muuto. He joined the company as Design Manager in 2011 and served as Head of Design from 2013 to 2015. This experience sits alongside his independent furniture practice and gives him direct knowledge of both the creative and production sides of contemporary furniture design.
