TON: Czech Craftmanship, Contemporary Design

TON's story is closely connected to BystÅ™ice pod Hostýnem in the Czech Republic, where Michael Thonet established a furniture factory in 1861 and production continues today. The site became an important centre for bentwood furniture, using steam to make solid wood pliable before skilled craftspeople bend it into form. TON continues this hand-bending tradition alongside contemporary woodworking and production methods, drawing on generations of knowledge about working with timber.

That heritage can be seen in designs such as Michael Thonet's Chair 14 and the 811 collection, while contemporary seating shows how TON continues to develop its approach to wood, form and construction. Huset's collection includes work by designers such as Alex Gufler, Arik Levy and Claesson Koivisto Rune, spanning dining chairs, armchairs, lounge chairs and stools. Rather than treating its history as a fixed aesthetic, TON applies its understanding of timber and craftsmanship across designs from different periods.

Huset's TON collection also extends into dining, coffee and side tables, giving tables greater prominence alongside the brand's extensive seating range. The P.O.V. collection is particularly well represented, alongside designs including Jylland, Lasu and YYY. Across both historic and contemporary furniture, the connection is TON's understanding of wood and its ability to shape the material through traditional craft and contemporary design. The current Huset assortment supports this broader positioning, with substantial representation across both seating and tables.
